This is a plainly beautiful phone and exactly what I personally see coming as the next stage of mobile phone design. A phone, made of wood, no fancy stuff, from ecologically aware ressources. These ones even being offsprings from a cooperation with master songwriter Sakamoto. Beautiful, I would love to have one. I love the natural shape and the dimensions of the phone.
I am happy to hear that Wes Anderson seems to have taken on a remake of French “My best friend,” starring the great French actor Daniel Auteuil which some of you might know from the terrible, terrible movie “Cache.” It (the remake, that is) is supposedly called “The Rosenthaler Suite” and sounds very Anderson to me. Now why have I heard nothing about that on my favorite German Movie blog so far?
The Playlist apparently had a sneak peak into the script, suggesting a role for Owen Wilson. I wonder if he is already up for comedy again after the tragic events last year. Speaking of which, in the Anderson-movie “Darjeeling Express” Wilson has a short scene in which his character tells his mother that he had an accident, driving his motorbike into a hill (I am paraphrasing). A dark moment in the light of the events that were to take place only shortly after.
On happier news I found the great prequel to “Darjeeling Express” on YouTube will be happy to share it with you, dear readers.
If you are interested in the history of Bauhaus you might want to check the article on sueddeutsche.de, dealing with Dammerstock in Karlsruhe, one of the less known Bauhaus projects realised in Germany after the war. To some unknown, classical modern German architecture was not so much about the skyscrapers that eventually resulted from it in the U.S. but rather often dealt with rationalist oncepts regarding community building instead. The small and in parts unspectacular community of Dammerstock might be a good example.
Unfortunately, the article came a bit too late to spur interest regarding the 80 year anniversary that took place this year with some guided tours and lectures.
My latest discovery is this innovative project from Munich, which lets authors read an excerpt of ten pages from their latest book.
A very private way to browse for new books and authors you might like plus also quite interesting if you are reading a book right now and you would like to experience how the author portraits his or her characters. Perfect if you missed your author’s current tour.
German bloggers Spreewald recently commenced with a new tradition, making it a point to post a music video each day, improving readers’ morale in the morning - a very nice idea indeed!
Not seen at Spreeblick, this video made my day right now, watching - or better, hearing - this song which has been long lost in my childhood memories. I loved that song dearly!
Unfortunately, I head to learn now that the song has not been composed by Osterwald or his band at first. It was an Italian author who created this masterpiece, which then was in turn updated by the band which became known for it.
Then again, they are neither the first nor the last band recycling existing music, making something great out of it - a traditional musical approach without which our culture would not be what it is today. Q.E.D.:
I just love the leather, the craftsmanship. Please turn your attention to the brass and leather checkers, that should provide for a nice feel. The boards are being produced since 1998. Not a very long tradition, but the company has been able to quickly become top of the line when it comes to boards. It is a big board, too, at 51×34.5×7.
If you however would like a nice leather set that is easy to take to your favorite café or to your datscha, this easy-to-fold set might be just right for you. I love the leather. Check their website here.
I have to admit I am quite torn between the two and have not yet decided. I love the first one, but I do realize it can be quite tedious to take it with you all over the place - in other words, you won’t. Then again, the craftsmanship is quite marvelous, you can see how much work has been put into this. I will let you know, whatever I decide. Until then, I might stick with the traditional one of my family. Or with the Skype-application, which comes in handy if you would like to play with friends all over the world. Pursuing your hobby, you should try to stay clean and not become a cocaine addict, high-rolling for up to 5k per game, as a cocaine fiend describes in a post at this website.
If you have the desire to learn more about backgammon and you are too broke to invest in a good book, I would by the way recommend this website to you.
Spiegel Online reported that Porsche Design will issue a new line of shoes in 2010. Good for them! The report missed some major facts, however: They might have mentioned that cooperation partner Müller & Meirer have been working with Porsche Design for a long time already - and quite successfully at that.
One should also mention that this is not even the first time Porsche Design sells shoes. As the picture here shows, there has been a very nice line of sneakers that Porsche Design developed together with Adidas.
But of course, this would not have been such interesting news, would it?
The Tesla is not ready yet for the world as can be seen in this video. You can also see, however, how it burns a Lotus Elise like it was a VW Beetle (the classic one, that is). Should be fun to ride. But so far, I would stay with the real Elise.
Swedish supercar brand Koenigsegg issues a brand-new coating for its, well, supercar. It will be called Trevita, a Swedish abbreviation for “three whites.”
Too bad most of us will never be able to see that as Koenigsegg plans to produce only three of these cars total. The rest of their money will probably be needed to support Saab, which will be sold quite soon, according to recent news. How much money new minority-holder BAIC (that is unfortuately notorious for terrible cars) will add to that adventure is not sure.
